Just in case you’ve missed it, here’s the background to this fabulous bit of Icelandic folklore! Countdown to publication: Rupture DAY ONE.
The next Santa is Sausage Swiper (Bjúgnakrækir in Icelandic)! He arrives on 20th December and leaves on 2nd January, and across that period, Icelanders will be on guard, to keep their Christmas sausages (Bjúga, a salty smoked Icelandic sausage) safe from this meddling thief! In the past, he’d sit in the rafters and watch the sausages being smoked, nipping down when the coast was clear to crawl through the ashes and smoke to grab them. These days, he’s much more brazen, popping in and out of people’s homes to steal his favourite treat.
Always hungry, Sausage Swiper
didn’t take long to find a farm.
His speciality was to spot
a string of sausages on a nail.
Visiting as many farms as he could,
he stole sausages everywhere.
AND to celebrate the eighth day of the RUPTURE countdown, we’ll be giving away TWO fabulous books! Signed copies of Paul E. Hardisty‘s The Abrupt Physics of Dying and The Evolution of Fear! These are both first editions, and the first and second in the amazing Claymore Straker series. Shortlisted for the CWA John Creasey (New Blood) Dagger AND Telegraph thriller of the year!
Either share on Facebook or retweet on Twitter to be in with a chance of winning! We’ll announce the winner of the previous day’s draw when we post details of the next Santa!
