Description

A price on her head. A secret worth dying for.

.

Just 48 hours to expose the truth…

.

Single-mother bounty hunter Lori Anderson has finally got her family back together, but her new-found happiness is shattered when she’s snatched by the Miami Mob – and they want her dead. Rather than a bullet, they offer her a job: find the Mob’s ‘numbers man’ – Carlton North – who’s in protective custody after being forced to turn federal witness against them. If Lori succeeds, they’ll wipe the slate clean and the price on her head – and those of her family – will be removed. If she fails, they die.

With North due in court in forty-eight hours, Lori sets off across Florida, racing against the clock to find him and save her family. Only in this race the prize is more deadly – and the secret she shares with JT more dangerous – than she ever could have imagined.

In this race only the winner gets out alive…

Brimming with tension, high-stakes jeopardy and high-voltage action, and a deep, emotional core, Deep Dirty Truth is an unmissable thriller by one of the freshest and most exciting voices in crime fiction.

‘Sharp, thrilling and one hell of a ride. This series just gets better and better!’ Chris Whitaker

.

‘Kidnapped by the Miami Mob, bounty hunter Lori Anderson has 48 hours to save herself – and her family. Can she do it in time? Deep Dirty Truth by Steph Broadribb is out now’ Deep Dirty Truth is recommended as a MUST READ in the Saturday Express

.

Deep Dirty Truth is a classic slice of Americana from a Brit with an ear for the sassy, clipped dialogue and breakneck pace of the noir genre. Stylish with an original take on the lone wolf/bounty hunter theme. This is a novel alive with tension and intriguing twists. An old fashioned tale with modern sensibilities and a great female protagonist. What starts as the kind of story you’ve seen often in the movies soon acquires it’s own momentum and trajectory … There’s a good deal of wit at the expense of the complacent, anachronistic, loud mouthed quick-fisted mobsters. Just a whole hell of a lot of fun’ New Book Magazine

.

‘Steph Broadribb’s debut novel Deep Down Dead featured tough Florida bounty hunter Lori Anderson, and was a prime example of an English writer finding an American voice for both the narrative and the characters. In the event, Broadribb proved to be just as adroit in this area as such male counterparts as Lee Child. That book involved the up-against-it Lori, desperate for money, taking on what proved to be a dangerous job. In Deep Dirty Truth (Orenda, £8.99), she is snatched by Miami gangsters in what appears to be a prelude to murdering her. But instead of her death, they offer her a commission: track down their ‘numbers man’, Carlton North, who is in protective custody after turning federal witness against them. If she fails, she and her family die. This is every bit as lively an outing for Broadribb’s heroine as its predecessor, and the pace is satisfyingly unrelenting’ Deep Dirty Truth was selected by Barry Forshaw as a Book of the Month at Crime Time

Steph writes an article for the Metro about a trip to the everglades that inspired her to write the Lori Anderson series.

Online Reviews

‘This was a rip-roaring ride, action-packed, and a real page turner. Although 3rd in a series, this one reads easily as a stand alone … but as always, I recommend starting at the beginning. There are few hints in this book that refer back to the previous books, but not so much as to take away the enjoyment from reading this one … and whetting your appetite to see how it all began’ Linda Strong

.

‘Are you ready for a heart-pumping shooting from the hip read? Do prepare yourself as once you start you just won’t want to stop! Bounty hunter Lori Anderson has plenty of good old fashioned gumption, yet is as modern a character as you could wish to find … I really do recommend starting at the beginning with the fabulous `Deep Down Dead’ which was Steph Broadribb’s debut. Lori thinks with viper like speed, speaks with strength and acts from her gut. Steph Broadribb has constructed a thoroughly believable world full of substantial yet flawed characters. I quite simply love this series, I leap in with total faith and just let myself go. ‘Deep Dirty Truth’ is a thrilling, assertive and energetic read, go on I dare you, grab yourself a copy’ Love Reading

.

Deep Dirty Truth is an exhilarating and addictive read. Every time I put the book down to do stuff in the real world, I couldn’t wait to pick it back up again to see what else was in store for the characters and myself. A compelling and thrilling read with a kick ass protagonist readers are going to love’ By The Letter Book Reviews

‘WOW. The 3rd instalment of the kick-ass bounty hunter Lori Anderson series was the best one yet! Tense and exciting with no let up from the very first sentence’ Ginger Nut

‘I’ve just finished Deep Dirty Truth by Steph Broadribb and I think I need some oxygen as I’m all out of it! Breathless stuff. Best Lori yet, and that’s the deep dirty truth of it’ Beardy Book Blogger

‘Best book I’ve read in 2018, amazing, fast paced thriller!! Download to your kindle NOW!’ Ian Cash

.

Deep Dirty Truth is really good, gripping, and unputdownable and I am already looking forward to reading the next book in this fantastic series!’ Book After Book

 .

‘This is a series where the storylines tend to overlap. You could read this book as a standalone novel but will get so much more if you read the books in order. All of the characters and parts of the ongoing storyline have developed strongly.
Dakota is a character I adore, if you could read a novel where a secondary character became the primary one in another novel she would be my choice. She is brave, funny and very independent. One of the most intimidating parts was when Lori was going though the Everglades. It’s not somewhere I know, and not something I would plan on visiting after this. I could practically see the alligators swim past me. I felt that many storylines were closed at the end of this novel, please let there be another’ Steph’s Book Blog

.

‘From Tallahassee to Miami, from the Everglades to the long winding highways of Florida state…it’s a thriller with bite, grit and attitude If you love your thrillers with punchy dialogue, a break neck speed and unrelenting action, then this is the book for you. It’s set in Florida, all over in  fact so the thrill of the chase is there from the word go. And it deserves a post of its own for its sheer energy and the brilliant third episode it brings to an already nail-biting series. Lori Anderson is THE bounty hunter/all- round crime fighting, no nonsense hero that you need in your crime fiction life’ The Book Trail

.

‘When Broadribb takes us to JT’s and Dakota’s story, the reader gets an insight to their lives and their relationships with Lori, and each other. This is a lovely aside to the main action. Yet again, Steph Broadribb has written a great, engaging novel that I read over two days, only stopping for things like work and sleep! From early on in the novel, it becomes apparent that this series is destined to continue. The next story is beautifully set up at the end of this one, and I cannot wait to read it’ Segnalibro

.

‘I absolutely loved this book. Just everything is right – from the plot to the characterisation to the setting as we weave in and out of the southern States, including the ominous ‘Gator’ country. The authenticity of Steph’s language is, as always, impressive. I raced through the story as the tension grew, wondering how Lori was going to get out of her latest escapade.  For me, this is the best Lori Anderson so far. And, judging by the ending, I’m very much looking forward to the next instalment’ Joy Kluver

.

‘In a sense this is a classic template for a thriller – there are echoes of The Thirty Nine Steps, for example – a protagonist who’s cut off suddenly from her own life, forced to live by her wits and with only limited time to put things right. Not by any means a new idea. Yet just as in music, so here the constraints of a classic form show Broadribb at the top her game, keeping this pacy, relentless novel rattling along at almost breathtaking speed and building tension on tension as the bodycount increases … In all, a superb addition to the Lori canon’

 Blue Book Balloon

.

‘Steph Broadribb knows her characters so well now that she knows exactly what makes them tick and how they react to certain situations. This means that you feel as though you are in the middle of the drama as it unfolds for Lori-it’s a real experience reading one of Steph’s books and it’s one I hope will go on for a few more books yet! All The Stars for Deep Dirty Truth! It’s a gutsy, relentless and substantial book with a heart of gold-rather like Lori herself. And I hope she comes storming back in another adventure very soon’

 My Chestnut Reading Tree

.

‘Broadribb’s narrative was fast, full of drama, and the time limits imposed on Lori upped the tension, not only for the characters but also for me as the reader. I desperately wanted Lori to succeed but there were times when you really felt that she wouldn’t, that her life would come crashing down and that would be it … I know that I raced through these few pages, just as they raced through the Everglades, both of us desperate to discover the outcome. The whole novel was much like this and I defy anyone not to race through as quickly as I did! The thrills and spills of Deep Dirty Truth were addictive and compelling and, in my opinion would make a great movie or Netflix drama, my only problem would be that I arrived so late to the wonderful world of Lori Anderson’ My Bookish Blogspot

‘Brimming with tension, high-stakes jeopardy and high-voltage action, and a deep, emotional core, Deep Dirty Truth is an unmissable thriller by one of the freshest and most exciting voices in crime fiction’ Stephs Book Blog

.

‘This book is a real fire cracker and takes off from the first page. If you are into one session reads this is right up your street. I was one hundred pages in after opening the book, before I had to step away to take a deep breath and re-hydrate myself. Broadribb’s writing style is full on and unrelenting, but having reviewed her debut novel over a year ago and got blown away by that I wasn’t expecting anything less. If you are looking for a fresh female lead to take you through first few weeks of the new year, whose perilous adventures are always edgy and original from the get-go, then Lori Anderson is your girl’ The Library Door

.

‘I’m very impressed with the crime side of this book, and how it all planned out. I was quite dubious at the beginning, thinking A) oh well she’s not going to die because she’s the protagonist, and then B) what’s going to happen next? You’ll forget these questions within a few pages. Trust me. I loved the protagonist – her short sentences and persona really work for me, and I definitely want her as my pal. The story is well thought-through and fast-paced and you can’t tell what’s going to happen next until it hits you in the face. I’m 10/10 down for that. I’m seriously not even surprised the series has made the shortlist for three major awards’ Bookmark That

.

‘From the first page, we’re thrown into the action, the fast pace and short chapters adding to the sense of urgency that we experience alongside Lori, when a crime that she committed ten years ago comes back to bite her with a vengeance … Lori’s a survivor. She’s known violent men all her life and she’s finally reached a place where things seem good. She’s not giving that up without a fight. And it is a fight. I’m not going say any more here as I don’t want to spoil the plot. Suffice it to say, this is a very tightly written book, the action relentless, the characters unforgiving. But don’t just take my word for it: read it’ The Literary Shed

.

‘Not only do we get action in this book, we also get to see the more emotionally driven side of the story, and the way in which the author has portrayed this is very effective. It leads to occasional pauses in the action without really dropping the tension, but also helping to explain some of the finer points of the story. It really is an exciting tale, full of complicated family relationships, and emotional entanglements, not just those of Lori and JT. Explosive, emotional and full of the usual wicked humour, this is another sure fire Lori Anderson hit. This is a series that could run and run … and I can’t get enough’ Jen Meds Book Reviews

.

‘Oh I love Lori!  Basically all you need to know about Deep Dirty Truth is that it is pacy, beautifully written, with more intriguing relationship levels, lots of edge of the seat madness plus alligators. Alligators I say. What more could you ask for really? Page turning brilliance with a huge dose of class, a side helping of terror and a totally kick ass highly believable heroine backed up by an intensely engaging supporting cast. Just like the last books in the series but with added oomph. Lori rules. More please. Highly Recommended’ Liz Loves Books

.

‘The writing is so fast paced that you literally fly through the plot by the seat of your pants.  Breathless with anticipation and both desperate and fearful to know what the next page will bring. Going back to my fave detective dramas this would make an excellent one. (Seriously someone bring Lori Anderson to Netflix!) … The dialogue is fast paced yet realistic, nothing is too wordy nor is it snappy to the point of giving you whiplash. The narrative is emotive and you dragged into the plot by the hair, you absolutely need to know what happens to these characters by the end of the first chapter … It’s not often we are shown the difficulties of being a single working mother alongside a truly independent strong (non man hating) woman. I am maybe not a bounty hunter yet she was definitely a woman I could wholeheartedly relate to’ Laura Morning Star

.

‘The plot line was individual and had me guessing (and getting it wrong) several times, at no point have I felt that the story slowed pace at all. The descriptions are wonderful, the sentence structures masterfully kicking up the tension by several notches, letting you mellow out a bit, then throwing you right back into the thick of it. The story draws to a close in a way that for me, was perfectly matched to the Characters, powerful, tense and beautiful at the same time! I’m already excited for the next in the series!’ Made Up Book Reviews

 .

‘The setting for the story was just great with not only the mafia being a threat, but the gators also … Deep Dirty Truth is an exhilarating and addictive read. Every time I put the book down to do stuff in the real world, I couldn’t wait to pick it back up again to see what else was in store for the characters and myself. A compelling and thrilling read with a kick ass protagonist readers are going to love’

‘This is a fast paced book packed full of action and short, snappy chapters that keep you turning the page … This is such a great series of books and they just get better and better. It can be read as a standalone but I would recommend reading the previous two books to get to grips with some of the history particularly between Lori and JT. I love these two and the push and pull of their relationship is written so beautifully and honestly. Theirs is a love story with many complexities and Deep Dirty Truth finds them tentatively finding their way as a family of three … Exquisite’ Beverley Has Read

.

‘The story is so sharp, so well written that I felt like I’d been following all along.  The novel has been described as ‘Brimming with tension, high-voltage action & high-stakes jeopardy’ and I completely agree.  I just could not put it down.  I loved it.  It was a thrilling ride and I instantly fell in love with Lori.  Man, can she kick ass and yet there is something vulnerable about her, something that makes her incredibly likeable.  From the very outset I was invested in her and her feisty, courageous daughter, Dakota … Apparently film rights are under negotiation and that is nothing but a good thing.  Its just crying out for the big screen. Thoroughly recommended’ Tales Before Bedtime

.

‘Exciting, addictive, full of twists, this is Lori fighting for her life again. A super-fast pace, smart mouthed prose to die for and a plot that will keep your heart in your mouth as you watch Lori navigate the minefields between the devil and the deep blue sea’ Live and Deadly

.

Deep Dirty Truth is a thrilling action story but it also explores some fascinating questions about morality … As the novel raced towards its pulse racing conclusion I couldn’t tear my eyes from the pages. The engrossing storyline is matched – as ever – by Steph Broadribb’s vivid descriptions which bring Florida to life … Deep Dirty Truth is exactly what I’m looking for in an action thriller; it is tense, exciting and surprising but is also packed with perceptive characterisation, an atmospheric sense of place, some witty touches of black humour and real emotional depth. There’s clearly more trouble ahead for Lori and as much as she deserves a break, I can’t wait to find out what happens in the next book in what is definitely a must-read series for me’ Hair Past a Freckle

.

‘When I start reading one of the Lori’s books I try not to read the argument before, simply enter to the story and let the adrenaline flow through my body page after page, I can assure you you’ll not get bored! That’s why I am not talking much about this book’s plot, I don’t want to do any spoilers! This case is more personal than the others, and we’ll read more about the relation between JT (Lori’s partner) and her daughter Dakota, there’s friendship and some drops of romance in the book too, but a lot of bullets and blood. Ready to get deep dirty before discovering the truth?’ Varietats

.

‘To be honest anything I can say will never do enough justice to this story, the author has got under the skin of all the characters and breathed life into them so they all fulfil their roles perfectly, whether they be good or bad. It’s fair to say each time I compile a top of the year book list you can bet your life it will include a Lori adventure because there isn’t much else available to top it’ Ali the Dragon Slayer

.

Deep Dirty Truth is an action-packed, adrenaline-pumping rollercoaster read – a race against the clock. It’s so fast-paced that I barely drew a breath … Deep Dirty Truth and the previous two books feel very real, which isn’t surprising as the author has spent a lot of time in the USA and even trained as a bounty hunter herself. Steph Broadribb writes vivid descriptions of characters, action and setting – I felt like I was there too. She’s created a great family dynamic between Lori and JT and Dakota, and I even love some of the more-minor characters I’m not supposed to even like. Everything in the book is tied up neatly by the end (well, almost everything – at least, everything that needs to be – you’ll just have to read it to find out more). The scene is now set perfectly for the next instalment and I can’t wait to see both Lori and JT in action’ Off-the-Shelf Books

Deep Dirty Truth is the third part of the Lori Anderson series and the first one from the series that I have read. Although it is number three it can be read as a standalone and there was enough information dotted throughout to be able to understand what happened in the past to lead up to the predicament Lori finds herself in … The plot is fast-paced and there was something exciting happening on every page. The book makes you feel like you are having a pure adrenaline rush from beginning to end. It genuinely felt like I was holding my breath at times. Deep Dirty Truth is dramatic, dangerous and very impressive and I hope to go back and read the other two in the series soon’

Whispering Stories

.

‘This is the third book in the Lori Anderson series by Steph Broadribb and these books just keep getting better and better … Steph Broadribb is a brilliant writer, her books are so full of action that you will not want to stop reading. I found this book so hard to put down as I just had to keep reading and find out how Lori was going to get herself out of the trouble that she always seems to find herself in. Once again, publisher Orenda Books brings us a brilliant read from an excellent author. This is definitely one of my favourite series to read. My only complaint is that the books don’t come out fast enough!’ If Only I Could Read Faster

.

‘Well I think it’s safe to say that the author has successfully added another superb addition to the already stellar Lori Anderson series. This book and the character for that matter, just gets better with each outing. Although this can be read as a standalone, I would highly recommend reading the first two books in the series to understand the characters and their backgrounds more. Also the books are SUPERB! … It is full to the brim of shady mafia characters with her previous life, once again the forefront of the plot. Some characters are nice, some not so nice but they are so richly described you can picture them instantly as though you were watching the film version in your head. Steph Broadribb has successfully developed Lori through each book which is why this has become a firm favourite of mine already and I am hoping there will be more to come from Lori (and JT!) as there are definitely more criminals out there for her to reprimand! Absolutely recommended from me!’ BroadBeans Books

.

Deep Dirty Truth is the 3rd in the series and yep you can read it as a stand-alone but why in the hell would you want to do that when you can indulge yourself in some kick-ass reads! But if you want to fly by the seat of your pants the author provides you with enough of a back story so you can keep up! … Some writers have this tremendous skill of being able to provide you with an action-packed novel which never lets up the pace yet still provides you as a reader, the space to breathe & Steph Broadribb is one of those writers … Without giving away any spoilers we have gators, The Mob and truths uncovered in this hard-boiled and action-packed third instalment of the Lori Anderson series. If you like your thrillers thrilling, your pace pacy and your action action-packed then Deep Dirty Truth is going to blow you away!’ Chapter in my Life

.

Deep Dirty Truth is a bloody superb book; the literary equivalent of a big budget American action road movie. It’s truly cinematic in scale, drama and action, but it is in the characters that it really excels. Despite the big action set pieces, it still manages to retain an intimacy and closeness between its main protagonists. The action comes thick and fast, with Lori lurching from one difficult situation to another even more difficult one, as she tries to honour the debt she has to the Miami Mob whilst trying to stay alive long enough to see her daughter Dakota and JT again. Lori is a thoroughly engaging and likeable woman who in trying to do the best for her seriously ill daughter makes questionable career choices and gets herself into deeper and deeper water. And just when you think she has got herself out of this particular dilemma, well, book 4 awaits us, and I for one cannot wait to see where Lori goes next. But, seriously, the woman needs to rethink her lifestyle choices’

.

‘I think that I can say that Deep Dirty Truth is my favourite of the three Lori Anderson novels. It felt very accessible and well put together and the sections where the action alternate between Steph and JT seem to be seamless. Lori is a strong, independent woman but it is great to see her vulnerability through her relationship with JT and their daughter, Dakota. It adds a depth to the story and contrasts with the all action, high octane writing which leaves you breathless as the story evolves. This has to make a great film! … With short and snappy chapters, the author shows superb control of the narrative. There is a tangible difference in tone between the Lori chapters and the ones where we see JT and Dakota. It lets you breathe a little between the action. Deep Dirty Truth really is a brilliant addition to the series and genuinely adds to our knowledge of the characters … Fresh, high octane writing’ Books Life and Everything

.

‘Steph Broadribb has created someone who you will root for along with making you hope and pray she will find a solution to whatever is thrown at her! Even the secondary characters bring so much all coming together to create a breathtakingly brilliant story!  With writing that completely takes you on an out of control adventure that was both gripping and tense! Deep Dirty Truth guarantees an amazing amount of tension, thrills and action! Loved it!’ Rae Reads Book Blog

.

‘The focus is firmly on Lori, kicking ass and taking names (then kicking ass again to make sure it’s well and truly kicked). She’s a brilliant character though I think Steph Broadribb rather enjoys putting her through the wringer. Just when you think there’s a moment to draw breath, we’re off again. Steph proved in the first two books that she can do Americana so very well, and the same deft skill with place is on show here. Hugely entertaining, fast-paced adventure that will leave you wanting just one more chapter until you look up and it’s 1.30am and it’s finished and how on earth are you supposed to get to sleep now? Highly recommended, though you need to read Deep Down Dead and Deep Blue Trouble first!’ Espresso Coco

.

‘I really like Lori Anderson as a character, a strong female character lead who has great morals and beliefs which shape her into a hard hitting and head strong woman. She has strong family ties and family always comes first as she maintains to keep her family together … Steph’s writing is strong, with a hard hitting storyline, that keeps the reader engaged from the very start. The book reads as a movie script and would be great to watch on the big screen as it has all the makings of a Hollywood film’ Sarah’s Book Reviews

.

‘Oh god I so want to be on #TeamLori! She is fearless, headstrong and super smart and takes zero shit from anyone-especially where her family is concerned. She was wrong … What starts as a simple location of a witness turns into a much bigger story and Lori has to decide where her loyalties lie and how she can balance her moral decision making when the clock is against her and the fate of her family hangs in the balance. At no point does Lori ever feel sorry for herself, she just gets on with the matters at hand and focuses on her end point-being alive and returning to JT and Dakota. If you haven’t read either of the first 2 in the Lori Anderson stories, it’s possible to read and enjoy this third outing but after finishing Deep Dirty Truth you will want to read them all!’ Rachel Read It

.

‘Addictive reading. Scary and tense throughout. I can visualise this being made into a Netflix series. If anyone hasn’t read the other books in the series (what’s wrong with them?) Deep Dirty Truth can be read as a stand alone but I would recommend that they don’t miss out and read the other books because they are awesome! Deep Blue Trouble the previous book in this series was on my Outstanding Books Of The Year list for last year, this book will most definitely be on this year’s list’ Mrs Bloggs Books

.

‘The author sure knows how to deliver those jaw-dropping moments! It should come as no surprise when I say that Steph Broadribb has delivered another gritty, tense, kickass action crime thriller with the latest in the Lori Anderson series. Short, sharp and sometimes shocking chapters keep the reader racing through the pages with description that has you right in the thick of things. F*cking brilliant!! Steph Broadribb has nailed it again! … Do I recommend this book? Does a bear sh*t in the woods?? You bet your sweet arse I do! An emotive, powerful, hardcore and thrilling read that leaves you desperate for the next book in the series. I know I have to wait another year, but DAMN this is one fine series! Make sure you add this book, all three in fact, to your TBR as you will not regret it!’

Crime Book Junkie

.

‘I don’t want to go into too much detail about the plot as this is such a tension filled read that I want you to enjoy it for yourself. There are some vicious crooks in book three that will make you fearful for Lori and her family, and the wide expanse of the American landscapes make the perfect scene for the car chases that take place and the violence that ensues from the opening pages. It creates a huge sense of unpredictability, as out in the wilderness, far away from civilisation, and where phone signal can be patchy as well, crimes can easily be covered up. If you do like action filled reads right from the get go then you really need to be reading the Lori Anderson series. The chapters are short and snappy, and they will make you want to turn those pages … The cinematic edge to these books and the tension charged plot is what makes the Lori Anderson series a real winner for me, it’s a series that just keeps getting better and better. This is another fantastic book from Steph Broadribb; I can’t wait to catch up with Lori and JT again’ Hooked From Page One

.

Deep Dirty Truth is a thrilling and electrifying ride with a gripping plot-line and THE MOST exciting female protagonist I think I have EVER come across. Think sweaty palms and heart-pumping moments as you get sucked into this page-turner, with barely a moment to catch your breath. In case you haven’t figured it out already, yes I recommend all three books in this series and am silently tapping my fingers awaiting Book 4….. *tap, tap, tap*’ Swirl and Thread

.

‘As a female, I love nothing more than reading about a total badass character that’s multidimensional and so wholly developed and Lori Anderson is the epitome of a strong, sassy, sharp woman … This book was just as whip smart and lightning fast as the first two, there’s an intensity to Broadribb’s writing that makes you hold your breath for the entirety of the story. The action starts on page one and never stops, period, so when you start this one, settle in and get ready for one hell of a ride. Another must read for thriller fans, and again, I’ve gotta add that I NEED a Lori Anderson movie! … Electrifying, Fierce and Compelling’ Novel Gossip
